The company has announced two new USB-based emulators and the latest version of its VisualDSP++ integrated development and debugging environment (IDDE), release 3.5. The two USB-based emulators reportedly provide simple, high-speed emulation, allowing users to perform standard debugging functions such as read and write memory, read and write registers, load and execute executables, set and clear breakpoints, and single-step C, C++ and assembly language source code. The emulators come in standard and high-performance versions, with full speed USB 1.0 connection and high-speed USB 2.0 connection, respectively. With the ability to automatically detect and support multiple I/O voltages, the emulators enable users to communicate with all of the company’s JTAG processors and embedded processors, including the Blackfin processor for embedded media devices, using a full- or high-speed USB port on the host PC. New features found in VisualDSP++ release 3.5 include profile-guided optimization, a memory profiler, integrated source-code control, an automation-aware scripting engine that supports languages based on Microsoft’s API, and an enhanced background telemetry channel. Additional features include sophisticated visualization windows and multi-project support that allows users to work on multiple projects simultaneously. According to the company, the tightly integrated USB-based emulators and VisualDSP++ offer programmers seamless and rapid transition from development in a simulation environment to target hardware debugging. Pricing for the USB 1.0 and 2.0 emulators are $1,200 and $4,000, respectively. The full VisualDSP++ suite starts at $3,500. ANALOG DEVICES INC., Norwood, MA. (800) 426-2564.
