Pairing the company's predictive gate drive technology with integrated charge pumps, the TPS40020 and TPS40021 synchronous dc/dc buck controllers promise higher gate-drive performance in non-isolated 15A to 25A power supplies with input voltages from 2.25V to 5.5V. Both devices achieve efficiencies up to 92% and minimize diode conduction losses associated with high side and synchronous rectifier N-channel MOSFET transitions. Other shared features include programmable soft start and high side short-circuit protection, programmable fixed frequencies from 100 kHz to 1 MHz, and output voltage transient comparators with power good indication. Design support is by way of TPS40K Designer software, which includes analysis tools for conducting worst-case loop response analysis and component characterization. Available in 16-pin, HTSSOP PowerPad packages, price for either device is $1.15 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
