Eye Doctor Treats Fast Serial I/O Analysis And Design
Most new serial I/O methods use equalization techniques at the receiver to help boost speed and extend the range of the technology. Now there's a T&M system you can use to design, build, and test such serial I/O methods. LeCroy's Eye Doctor works with the company's SDA series of digital sampling oscilloscopes (DSO).
This set of software tools combines the signal acquisition power of a DSO with digital signal processing (DSP) for digital filter synthesis and simulation. Users then can capture and view real-world gigahertz signals, explore equalization schemes, compare and test waveforms, and model the signal at the output of the simulated interconnects and transmissions systems.
Eye Doctor provides the tools to undo or compensate for common forms of distortion resulting in increased signal-to-noise ratio, opened eyes, increased rise time, and reduced jitter. It also restores lost bandwidth and improves waveform fidelity. Its Virtual Probing enhances the accuracy of measurements made on distorted waveforms, while its equalized receiver emulation lets users make measurements from a "receiver's eye view."Virtual probing simulates signals from any point within the system using a single measured waveform (see the figure). The Processing Web Editor is used to connect the equalizer and Virtual Probing elements in an intuitive signal flow diagram layout. Virtual Probing can be used to deembed probe and fixture responses from measurement to improve the accuracy of signal integrity measurements.
