A DSP-based printer solution gives users the ability to print complex layouts with multiple color graphics and images in seconds rather than minutes. xStream DSP Technology (see photo, inset) enables OEMs to develop software-upgradeable color laser printers that address the demand for improved quality and speed. The technology is a complete system for controlling a color laser printer. The initial hardware reference design is based on a 60-MHz Texas Instruments DSP with migration to a 200-MHz DSP planned for the second half of this year. System memory is scalable for lowest system cost with maximum performance. The solution also includes a software package for developing embedded control systems for color laser printers.
