Current-Limited Load Switch Simplifies Hot-Swap Management

Oct. 8, 2008
Product announcement for Advanced Analogic Technologies' AAT4614 current-limited P-channel MOSFET power switch for high-side load switching.

For high-side load switching applications, the AAT4614 current-limited P-channel MOSFET power switch protects peripheral ports from short-circuit and over-voltage events. The load switch combines reverse current blocking with programmable current limiting and an integrated fault flag in a silicon footprint up to 30% smaller than traditional topologies. Operating across an input range of 2.4V to 5.5V, the device functions in both 3V and 5V systems. When input drops below 2.4V, an under-voltage lockout circuit automatically shuts down operation. Other features include an over-current threshold that is programmable up to 1.6A via a resistor from SET to ground, a 1-µs current limit transient, 4-ms blanking time, and a typical on resistance of 130 milliOhms. Available in a lead-free, eight-pin SC70JW, a six-pin SOT23, or a five-pin SOT23 package, price is $0.49 each/1,000. ANALOGIC TECHNOLOGIES INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (408) 737-4600.
