Targeting automotive applications, the Tiny Series 16-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) combine flash memory with controller area network (CAN) and local interconnect network (LIN) interfaces. The 16 devices in the H8/36057 series and H8/36037 series microcontrollers have been developed to help reduce the size and system cost of airbag controllers, shock absorber controllers, anti-theft devices, and other networked modules. Each device in both series is available in a 64-pin QFP measuring 14 mm x 14 mm. They all operate on 5V and at frequencies up to 20MHz. Four devices are F-ZTAT MCUs that offer up to 56 KB of flash memory, while the remaining 12 have up to 56 KB of mask ROM. Other common features include: a Hitachi CAN (HCAN) function; a CAN-compatible, four-message buffer network controller that complies with the Bosch CAN Ver. 2.0B active specification; and support for the 20 kb/s LIN. The devices also provide a serial communication interface (SCI) that supports both asynchronous and synchronous communications. The H8/36037 MCUs have one SCI channel and the H8/36057 devices have two. Depending on the device, sample prices range from $2.45 to $5.10 each.
