Designers of automotive and industrial applications have more options via three additions to the HCS12 family of 16-bit microcontrollers (MCUs): the 9S12D32, 9S12DP512, and 9S12C32. The 9S12D32 and 9S12DP512 provide 32 KB to 512 KB of flash memory, respectively. And, featuring a low pin count, the 9S12C32 is said to deliver 16-bit performance at eight-bit prices. Each device offers 25 MHz performance, on-chip debugging, and code compatibility with existing 68HC11 and 68HC12 architectures. Features of the 9S12D32 and 9S12DP512 MCUs include 1 KB to 4 KB of byte-erasable EEPROM, 2 KB to 14 KB of RAM, and an I2C port. The 9S12C32 provides a 25 MHz core at 5V and a 16 MHz core at 3V, 32 KB of third-generation flash memory, and 2 KB of RAM. Prices for the 9S12D32, 9S12DP512, and 9S12C32 start at $6.90, $14.50, and $5 each/10,000, respectively. MOTOROLA INC., Austin, TX. (512) 895-2000.
