Designed for vehicle-safety applications—specifically airbag systems and power steering—the XC2300 family of microcontrollers provides 32-bit performance and a peripheral set supporting present and future safety standards. Systems incorporating XC2300 devices have the potential to be certified according to the new SIL3 standard (IEC 61508), about to take a hold in Europe beginning in 2008. The devices employ a CPU that can process at speeds up to 80 MIPS at 80 MHz and a USIC that can be configured as a UART, LIN, buffered SPI, IIC (Inter-IC) Bus, or IIS interface. In addition, the MultiCAN (CAN Rev. 2.0B active) provides up to 64 assignable message objects on up to three CAN nodes. Other features include two parallel a/d converters, a memory protection unit, maximum power consumption of 60 mA at 80 MHz, 128 KB to 1.6 MB of flash memory, and AUTOSAR compliance. Samples of the XC2365 and XC2387 are available now. Pricing varies according to specification, i.e., the XC2365 with a 66-MHz frequency, 384 KB of flash memory, and an operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C is priced at approximately $6.95 each/20,000.
