Multiple Energy-Efficiency Features Drop MCU Power To Ultra-Low Levels

To achieve the lowest power consumption available, says STMicroelectronics, its STM32L0 microcontrollers (MCUs) leverage a combination of the ARM Cortex-M0+ core, optimized architecture, power-management modes, ultra-low-power peripherals, support for energy-saving USB features, and proprietary ultra-low-power process technology. The MCUs feature run consumption down to 87 µA/MHz, 440-nA stop mode with full RAM data retention, a low-power time counter, and 3.5-µs wakeup time. In addition, a 12-bit on-chip analog-to-digital converter (ADC) draws a mere 48 µA at 100 ksamples/s. Built-in hardware oversampling increases ADC resolution to 16 bits. The devices operate over a wide temperature range up to 125°C. USB full-speed enabled devices support crystal-less operation, USB battery charger detection, and energy-saving link power management. Packaging options, ranging from 2.7- by 2.7-mm WLCSP36s to 10- by 10-mm LQFP64s, incorporate up to 64 kbytes of flash, 8 kbytes of SRAM, and 2 kbytes of EEPROM. Applications include computer peripherals, healthcare monitors and trackers, industrial sensors, and smart-home devices.
