Three-Zone Thermal Supervisor Employs Single-Pin Interface
Incorporating a proprietary eight-bit, sigma-delta A/D converter and a signal-processing front end, the MIC384 three-zone thermal supervisor can perform thermal diode measurements using only one wire and ground. Claiming to be the industry's smallest three-zone thermal supervisor, the device uses embedded thermal diodes similar to those found in Intel's Pentium III CPU. It is available in eight-pin MSOP and SOIC packages and features one local and two remote temperature measurement zones, I2C/SMBus compatibility, a programmable interrupt output, and an address selection input. Other features include programmable thermostatic settings for all three zones, low-power shutdown mode, and fail-safe response to diode faults. Up to eight MIC384s can share the same bus. The SOIC costs $1.54 and the MSOP, $1.66 each/1,000.
