5 Next-Gen M.2 SSDs to Drive Gaming PCs, Workstations in 2026

Explore five next-generation M.2 SSDs built for faster PCs, workstations, and AI applications.

M.2 SSDs continue to evolve as gaming PCs, workstations, and AI applications demand faster storage performance and efficiency. As PCIe Gen5 becomes more common, manufacturers are pushing higher speeds, larger capacities, and improved thermal designs while keeping the compact M.2 form factor. The following next-generation M.2 SSDs are driving the latest advances in flash storage technology.

Samsung 9100 PRO

The 9100 PRO is Samsung’s latest PCIe Gen5 consumer SSD designed for high-performance PCs, workstations, gaming systems, and AI workloads. The drive leverages the company’s V-NAND TLC technology and in-house controller to provide sequential read speeds up to 14,800 MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 13,400 MB/s. The 9100 Pro comes in storage capacities up to 8 TB and includes an optional heatsink model to help dissipate heat.

KIOXIA XG10 Series

The XG10 Series is KIOXIA’s latest PCIe Gen5 M.2 SSD designed for high-performance notebooks, desktop PCs, gaming systems, and AI PCs. The drive takes advantage of the company’s BiCS FLASH Generation 8 TLC NAND to deliver up to 14,000-MB/s sequential read speeds and up to 12,000-MB/s sequential write speeds. The M.2 2280 design also suits it for thinner performance laptops that require space and power efficiency.

SanDisk WD_BLACK SN8100

SanDisk’s WD_BLACK SN8100 is another great PCIe Gen5 M.2 SSD designed for gaming, content creation, professional workloads, and AI applications. The drive uses SanDisk's latest TLC 3D CBA NAND technology, which combines greater performance with increased power efficiency when compared to previous generations of PCIe SSDs. The drive has up to 8 TB of storage capacity and demonstrates how M.2 SSDs are continuing to increase storage density while maintaining the compact 2280 form factor.

Crucial T710

Crucial has also jumped on the PCIe Gen5 M.2 SSD bandwagon with its T710, which is designed for gaming systems, workstations, and professional applications. Built with Micron’s G9 TLC NAND technology, the drive offers sequential read speeds up to 14,900 MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 13,800 MB/s. The T710 also comes in a single-sided design, allowing it to fit into more compact systems while still providing next-gen storage performance.

Kingston FURY Renegade G5

The FURY Renegade G5, Kingston’s PCIe Gen5 M.2 SSD designed for gaming PCs, enthusiasts, and high-performance workstations, combines a Gen5 controller with 3D TLC NAND technology to push sequential read speeds up to 14,800 MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 14,000 MB/s. It also includes a low-profile graphene-aluminum heat spreader designed to help manage temperatures and keep the drive in top performance.

Final Thought

The latest M.2 SSDs show how flash storage continues to improve in both performance and capacity without increasing the physical size of the drive. As PCIe Gen5 adoption grows, these SSDs will help power faster gaming systems, professional workstations, and emerging AI applications. With advances in NAND technology, controllers, and thermal management, M.2 SSDs are starting to handle workloads only dreamt of by previous generations of drives.
