What you'll learn:
- What was new at RustConf 2025?
- Where Rust is headed in the future.
As usual, I missed a lot of conferences because of limits on my time and travel budget, so I didn't make it to the Rust conference, RustConf, this year. On the plus side, they put most of their sessions on YouTube. There are quite a few and you will probably want to go through the list. It's extensive, though, so I cherry-picked a few that stood out to me and included them below.
Quite a few sponsor videos are included as well. These tend to be short and highlight their products or services, although some provide insights into Rust features and uses. Of course, artificial intelligence is in the mix, too. For example, Corust.ai's presentation, Your Senior Rust Coding Colleague, talks about its AI-enabled IDE environment.
Memory Safety is Merely Table Stakes [...]
Rust is known for its memory safety features, but Rust is much more than just a more memory-safe programming language. Leon Schuermann also dives into other aspects of Rust. You can download the slides as well.
10 Years of Redox OS and Rust
Don't know about Redox? It's an operating system in Rust developed by Jeremy Soller, so it makes sense that he makes the presentation. You can download his slides, too. I'm hoping to get him to write something for us on Redox OS. Check out the latest release on the website.
Cancelling Async Rust
Rain is an engineer at Oxide. This is a video worth watching, especially if you're new to Rust.
"Async Rust is a double-edged sword: the ease of cancelling in-progress work is both its superpower and its greatest weakness. Learn about the good and bad of async cancellation, and practical ways to mitigate the downsides."
Slides and additional resources are available as well.
Vision Doc: The Next 10 Years of Rust
This was the wrap-up that looks into the future of Rust, with Nicholas Matsakis and Jack Huey.
You can download the slides.

I earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Masters in Computer Science from Rutgers University. I still do a bit of programming using everything from C and C++ to Rust and Ada/SPARK. I do a bit of PHP programming for Drupal websites. I have posted a few Drupal modules.
I still get a hand on software and electronic hardware. Some of this can be found on our Kit Close-Up video series. You can also see me on many of our TechXchange Talk videos. I am interested in a range of projects from robotics to artificial intelligence.
