How are Hydraulics and Pneumatics Evolving for Industrial Applications?

Aug. 28, 2025
Offer your input on the ways hydraulic and pneumatic technologies are evolving to meet the performance needs of various industrial applications.

Hydraulics and pneumatics are the focus of our sister publication, Power & Motion, but electrical engineers and embedded developers often need to control and interface with this type of technology. It's utilized in a wide range of applications, from food processing to farm equipment.

Sara Jensen ([email protected]), Executive Editor of Power & Motion, put together the Industrial Fluid Power Survey (below) and will be reporting on the results in the future. I'm interested in your feedback as well, so I hope you will take the survey. Though many applications are turning to electrical or electronic motion control, hydraulics and pneumatics are often necessary for many industrial and commercial applications.

I earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Masters in Computer Science from Rutgers University. I still do a bit of programming using everything from C and C++ to Rust and Ada/SPARK. I do a bit of PHP programming for Drupal websites. I have posted a few Drupal modules.

I still get a hand on software and electronic hardware. Some of this can be found on our Kit Close-Up video series. You can also see me on many of our TechXchange Talk videos. I am interested in a range of projects from robotics to artificial intelligence.
