SFF And SFP Optical Transceivers Have Rate-Agile Capability

March 1, 2001
Available in both Small Form-Factor (SFF) 2 x 5-pin and Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) versions, these "rate-agile" optical transceivers can operate at either 1X (1.0625 Gb/s) or 2X (2.125 Gb/s) Fibre Channel rates, depending on the system board

Available in both Small Form-Factor (SFF) 2 x 5-pin and Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) versions, these "rate-agile" optical transceivers can operate at either 1X (1.0625 Gb/s) or 2X (2.125 Gb/s) Fibre Channel rates, depending on the system board into which they are installed. The rate-agile capability gives storage area networking OEMs manufacturing flexibility along with simplified inventory management, since the transceivers can be installed in systems running at either 1.0625- or 2.125-Gb/s fixed speeds, as well as in systems that can auto-negotiate between the two data rates.
The SFF and SFP optical transceivers adhere to the latest Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) standards, insuring interchangeability with all MSA compatible equipment. And they address the demand for increased port density in optical networking infrastructure equipment. Both versions of the optical transceiver are available in production quantities.
