Two PICMG 2.16-compliant backplanes have joined the Compact Packet Switching Backplane (cPSB) family. The six- and eight-slot 6U backplanes have one fabric slot. The remainder of the slots are node slots with the CompactPCI bus. The units have one slot that is convertible to a system slot via a CPU enable resistor pin. With the power studs and power blades dispersed throughout key locations in the backplanes, the overall width is a true six- or eight-slot size. This configuration enables the six-slot unit to fit within a 3U horizontal chassis and the eight-slot unit to fit within a 4U horizontal chassis. The use of M4 power studs lends modularity to the unit, allowing power interface boards in various configurations to be mounted to the backplane. Pricing starts at $698 for the six-slot unit and at $798 for the eight-slot unit. The cPSB backplanes have a lead time of three to five weeks.
