Performing a wide variety of power control functions, the CS-5166 synchronous NFET CPU buck controller IC is a highly integrated solution for powering Pentium II motherboard core logic. The 5-bit chip's functions include power good, current limiting, adjustable hiccup mode protection, and adaptive voltage positioning. An on-board 5-bit DAC programs the power supply's output voltage. The regulator chip's proprietary V2 control method is said to provide much faster transient response than conventional current- and voltage-mode controllers. Input voltages can range from 4.15V to 20V.
