The VTO line of low-jitter voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) with standard coaxial connectors targets 10- and 40-Gbit/s fiber-optic communications systems. These embedded clocks synchronize data and voice communications systems to operate at Sonet, STM, and 10-Gbit/s Ethernet. The VCOs perform the multiplexing, clock data recovery, and demultiplexing functions necessary for boards and line cards in network routers and long-haul communications systems. For 10-Gbit/s fiber-optic communications applications, the VCOs also come in a hermetic TO-8 package measuring 0.4 by 0.95 by 1.18 in. These packages have a smaller footprint than other dielectric resonator oscillator (DRO)-based VCOs. The 10-GHz TO-8 VCOs cost about $160 each. The 10-, 20-, and 40-GHz VCOs cost about $300, $800, and $1400 each, respectively. All pricing is for 250-piece quantities.
