As a next-generation Programmable Radio System-on-a-Chip, The PRoC LP integrates the proven WirelessUSB LP 2.4-GHz transceiver with the low-cost enCoRe II 8-bit flash microcontroller. The IC simplifies coding and board layout to cut design time and reduce board space requirements for small-form-factor wireless Human Interface Devices (HID) like mice, presenter tools, and rf remote controls. The use of the patented frequency-agile Direct Sequence Spread-Spectrum technology offers excellent interference immunity for wireless systems operating in the worldwide 2.4-GHz ISM band. The in-system programmable flash-based microcontroller allows last-minute firmware changes and eliminates the need for external EEPROM to store binding parameters. The MCU also reduces parts count by operating off a single crystal and by integrating voltage converters and passives. The PRoC LP delivers up to a 1-Mb/s data rate and a 97-dBm receive sensitivity. It runs on a 1.8V to 5.25V supply and draws only 0.87 mA average current, extending battery life in HID applications to one year. The PRoC LP CYRF69103 for mice and other peripherals and the PRoC LP CYRF69213 for USB bridges/dongles are sampling now, both in 40-pin QFN packages. Full production quantities for both will be available in February 2007. Prices start at under $2 each/100,000. CYPRESS SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., San Jose, CA. (800) 541-4736.
