Supporting the company's PowerPC 440EP processor, the 440EP evaluation kit provides a set of resources including an evaluation board, software-development tools, sample applications, system-level benchmarks, and hardware-design files. The kit allows users to perform an evaluation of the 440EP processor prior to using the base hardware/software design as a starting-point for their designs. Dubbed Yosemite, the 5" x 7" evaluation board works with Linux and other PowerPC-compatible operating systems. It includes the 440EP processor operating at 533 MHz, 256 MB of SDRAM, 32 MB of flash memory, two 10/100 Ethernet ports, one USB 2.0 port, two USB 1.0 ports, plus JTAG, trace, and PCI host connectors. In addition to sample apps and development tools, the resource CD provides processor-analysis benchmarks that include TTCP, DBench, Dhrystone, Whetstone, HINT, STREAM, and MPEG-4. Single-unit price for the kit is $750. APPLIED MICRO CIRCUITS CORP., San Diego, CA. (800) 935-2622.
