Targeting single-board computers and industrial PC system applications, the SIO10N268 embedded I/O device promises increased serial connectivity and flexibility in architecture migrations from ISA to low pin count (LPC). The device claims to be the industry's first embedded I/O controller that offers four serial ports and two modes of operation, LPC or ISA, in a single device. Its X-Bus interface provides support for up to four external components and also allows the use of ISA flash. Other features include an operating voltage of 3.3V (5V tolerant) and operation in ISA or LPC modes via a strapping option. Available in a 128-pin VTQFP, price is $4.75 each in production quantities.
