A new tactile switch has been process sealed to prevent contamination of the switch contacts during wave soldering or water-wash processes. The TL6100 is designed for through-hole mounting on a circuit board, and is useful for computer keyboards, personal digital assistants, video games, cell phones, appliances and electronic instrumentation. Topped with either a phosphor bronze dome or a stainless steel dome, the TL6100 has a mechanical life ranging from 400,000 to one million cycles. When designing applications using the TL6100, a wide range of actuation forces can be used to achieve the appropriate feel. Force requirements to activate the switch come in 130g, 160g, 300g, and 500g. Actuator heights can be specified at 4.70 mm, 5.20 mm, 6.90 mm and 9.90 mm to accommodate a wide range of physical design parameters. The TL6100 switch is rated at a switching power of 1 VA for silver contacts, and 0.2 VA for gold. Maximum switching voltage is 50V and initial contact resistance is 50 m? at 5 Vdc. Operating temperature ranges from –40°C to +85°C for silver contacts components and as high as +125°C for gold contacts. Pricing is $0.274 each/2,500. E-SWITCH, Brooklyn Park, MN. (763) 504-3525.
