Contrasting typical circuit designs, the IRAUDAMP4 Class D audio power amplifier reference design shows how designers can reduce pc-board space by 50% for the entire mid-voltage range of mid- and high-power amplifiers. The design employs an IRS20955 200V digital audio driver and IRF6645 DirectFET digital audio MOSFETs. It is a 2-channel, 120W half-bridge design offering 96% efficiency at 120W into 4Ω. Protection features include over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage, dc, and over-temperature. Housekeeping functions include a ±5V supply for analog signal processing for the preamplifier and a +12V supply referenced to -B for the Class D gate driver stage. The design is scalable for power, a specific number of channels, and requires no heatsink under normal operating conditions. Pricing for the IRAUDAMP4 is $550 each.
