Claimed as the industry's fastest and most versatile CMOS quad serializer/deserializer (SerDes), the M27207 Quad SkyRail transceiver ranges in bandwidth from 1 Gbps to 3.1875 Gbps. According to the company, the full range of bandwidth of the transceiver allows it to support all of the line-interface standards used in virtually every networking device in development today. In addition, it is compliant with current Fibre Channel specifications and supports early implementations of 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel. The transceiver's range of data rates is enabled by the company's Flexiclock architecture, which, the company says, solves the most challenging timing problems encountered by system designers. The four-channel transceiver can operate at bit rates as low as 1 Gbps per channel and provide up to 12.75 Gbps of duplex raw data bandwidth. The device integrates four transmitters and receivers, a SerDes function, clock-and-data recovery (CDR) and synthesis circuits, 8B/10B encoders and decoders, termination resistors, FIFO elastic buffers, rate matching, and channel-to-channel and chip-to-chip synchronization circuitry. The M27027 is available in four speed grades: 1 to 1.25 Gbps (M27027-1), 1 to 2.5 Gbps (M27027-2), 1 to 3.125 Gbps (M27027-3), and 1 to 3.1875 Gbps (M27027-4). The M27027-4 is priced at $79 each/1,000. Samples and evaluation boards are available now at all speeds, and chips will go into production in September. MINDSPEED TECHNOLOGIES, Newport Beach, CA.
