Reported as an industry first, the CM3702 integrates both a charge pump and a low-dropout (LDO) regulator within a small, 10-pin lead-free MSOP. The device targets audio applications in notebook PCs and consumer electronics, delivering a regulated 5V supply with up to 200 mA of continuous current at the analog input of the host system's audio codec. Employing two external capacitors, the charge pump maintains a nominal 0.8V differential between the input and output of the LDO regulator and operates at a frequency of 250 kHz. Two separate ground pins eliminate ground-noise feed through from the charge pump to the regulated output. Other features of the device include a typical PSRR of 42 dB, input voltages as low as 3V, an operating current of 180 µA, low power shutdown modes, overload current limiting, and over-temperature thermal shutdown. Currently sampling with evaluation boards, price for the CM3702 is $0.57 each/10,000. CALIFORNIA MICRO DEVICES CORP., Milpitas, CA. (408) 263-3214.
