With an eye on emerging digital home networks, the IDT RC32434 Interprise integrated communications processor employs what is said to be the industry's highest-performance 32-bit MIPS, 4Kc CPU core operating at up to 400 MHz. The device integrates a double data rate (DDR) memory controller to support a 16-bit wide memory, 32-bit version 2.2 PCI controller, and a dedicated local memory I/O controller. It also includes a single Ethernet channel operating at speeds up to 100 Mb/s with options for either a standard media independent interface or a reduced media independent interface. Other features include 64 bytes of NVRAM and an authentication unit. A royalty-free, Linux-based software package is available that includes peripheral driver support and libraries for many protocols and applications.
