Optimized for motor control in commercial and industrial products, the 68HC908MR8 flash microcontroller meets demands for energy efficiency, flexibility, and ease of programming. This chip typically extends the reliability and data retention of the embedded flash memory to 100,000 write/erase cycles and 50-year data retention (running at 55°C), making it useful for data storage as well as program storage. Thus, most embedded systems that require nonvolatile storage of temporary or changing data no longer need separate EEPROMs. The 68HC908MR8 incorporates analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), on-board voltage regulation, and advanced pulse-width modulation (PWM) modules optimized for motion control. Also, the chip includes asynchronous serial communications interfaces (SCIs) and a high-speed synchronous serial interface (SPI). It provides PWM waveform distortion correction, multiple fault inputs, and stop-clock detection. It's available in 28-pin PDIP, 32-pin QFP, and 28-pin small-outline IC packages. The 68HC908MR8 costs $3.60 each in 1000- to 10,000-unit volumes.
