The Z8 Encore family of 8-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) with 16 to 64 KB of flash and 2 or 4 KB of linear register SRAM are now available with a wider operating temperature range from –40°C to 105°C. The latest devices are otherwise completely identical to the original members of the family. On-chip peripherals include a DMA controller, 12-channel, 10-bit a/d converter, SPI and I2C interfaces, two 9-bit UARTs with IrDA-compliant encoder/decoders, four 16-bit counter/timers with capture and PWM capabilities, and a single-pin debugger. A development kit is also available. It consists of an ANSI-C compiler and C source-level debugger, a Windows-compatible version of ZiLOG Developer Studio (ZDSII) and Xtools, an evaluation board, sample flash device, RS-232-to-ZDB cable, a 9 Vdc universal power supply, and a target module interface board. Price for Z8F1601AN020EC MCU with 16 KB of flash memory in a 44-pin LQFP is $3.61 each/1,000. ZILOG INC, San Jose, CA. (408) 558-8500.
