Output voltages as low as 400 mV can be generated by the FAN5066 synchronous-mode monolithic dc/dc converter. This is said to be some 200 mV lower than competitive devices. Capable of driving external N-channel MOSFETs to deliver load currents in excess of 19A from a 5V input, the new converter is designed to meet the high-current, low-voltage requirements of DDR SDRAM buses and low-voltage ASICs. The FAN5066 IC features an 85% conversion efficiency and an output voltage that is adjustable from 0.4V to 3.5V with a low drift on-board voltage reference and flexible oscillator. The on-board oscillator can be set to operate between 80 kHz and 1 MHz, allowing designers to optimize the converter to the application and to synchronize it to the system in noise-sensitive applications.
