The TPS2345 integrated hot-swap power controller complies with the PICMG2.1 specifications for the PCI bus. It's designed to gradually power-up inserted PCI boards, detect load failures in PCI plug-in cards, remove power from failed boards, isolate the failed board, and communicate power events to the processor electronically without shutting down the system. To meet the application requirements, the inrush current profile of the controller can be tailored via closed-loop control of the current ramp rate during plug-in start-up sequencing. Also, the hot-swap controller features a low 20-mV sense voltage limit, which permits the use of low-value sense resistors to minimize insertion loss. Loss is further cut by the high gate drive generated by the controller for external n-channel power MOSFETs. In addition, the controller's circuit breaker immediately latches upon an overcurrent event. The TPS2345 comes in a 24-pin TSSOP. It costs $4.50 in lots of 1000.
