SMT DIPs Are Engineered For Reliability

Oct. 1, 2000

The IK Series of surface-mount DIP switches are engineered to incorporate the most desirable design features and to solve many of the problems commonly associated with DIP switches. Available in 2-, 4-, 6- or 8-pole models, the IK Series features a low profile of only 0.112'' and a size reduction volume that is said to be 30% less than competitive switches. UL94-VO high-temperature materials are used throughout and tin-plated terminals are standard for ease of solderability. Gull-wing terminations are designed for maximum resistance to pull-offs from the pc board, as well as for reduction of the shadow effect after IR soldering to reduce inspection time. Electrical ratings are 100 mA at 48 Vdc (non-switching) and 100 mA at 24 Vdc (switching) for 2,000 cycles minimum life. Other ratings include an initial contact resistance of 30 milliohms maximum and a dielectric strength of 500 Vac minimum. The IK switches also withstand higher temperatures than similar switches, having an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. A typical unit, the 8-position IKN0803000, costs $0.78 each/5,000.
