Embedded: VXS Single-Board Computer Ships

The VPF1, a 6U VME single-board computer, supports VXS (VITA 41) backplane switch-fabric communications using the VXS P0 connector. A pair of Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGAs compliments the dual-processor PowerPC 7447 CPU nodes. The PowerPC processors support up to 512 Mbytes of RAM, two Gigabit Ethernet channels, RS422 and RS232 ports, and PCI and PCI-X interfaces. The FPGAs can handle eight RocketIO 2.0/3.125-Gbit/s serializer-deserializer transceiver pairs suitable for connection to the VITA 41 switch fabrics. They also have access to 2 Mwords of SRAM and 64 Mbytes of double-data-rate SDRAM. The board costs $29,970.
