Versatile Switch Powers Metro Edge Network

Dec. 26, 2006
Redundancy and "future-proofing" are built into the SMC7824M/ESW, the latest in SMC Networks' TigerAccess family of switches for the Metro edge.

Bringing mission-critical redundancy and future-proofing to the edge of the Metro network, the SMC7824M/ESW switch from SMC Networks delivers 10/100 BaseT Ethernet for direct, high-speed connections to the network. The edge switch offers full L2/L4 management features that include rate-limiting, advanced QoS, Spanning Tree, and Multicast. Included are 24 10/100 ports, two 1000 BaseT RJ45 ports, and two Gigabit uplinks, all in a package that is 1.5 R-U high and less than 10 in. deep. On-board alarms, redundant power supplies and fans, event logs, and a Web-based management interface ensure easy maintenance.

The SMC7824M/ESW allows service providers to implement higher-bandwidth applications, like HDTV streaming, than are currently available to most users. The option for up to four gigabit uplinks connecting the switch onto the service provider's network enables maximum flexibility and redundancy for connections. Two removable power supplies and fan trays minimize downtime and maximize reliability.
