Palm-Sized Embedded Controller Sports Flash Memory

The 256 kbytes of flash memory on the QED-Flash board, a palm-sized embedded controller, enables users to compile code directly into non-volatile memory. This eliminates the need for a PROM burner and enables users to upgrade units in the field without changing memory chips. The instrument controller board delivers an integrated hardware and software implementation for data acquisition and control applications.The board, which is programmable in C, Forth and Assembly, includes an interactive debugger, multitasking executive, and libraries of hardware control routines. The latter includes drawing and plotting functions for a 128 x 240-pixel graphics display. There's up to 512 kbytes of on-board memory in addition to a full complement of peripherals.
