Covering data rates from OC-3 to OC-192, the Columbia family of framer/mapper ICs targets asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and packet-over-SONET (POS) optical communication systems. The ICs function as multiplexer and demultiplexer and perform clock and data recovery (CDR) operations in SONET/SDH systems. The Columbia 16 x 12 (S10219) framer/mapper is optimized for dense OC-3 and OC-12 port cards and allows the use of dual-rate line cards. The 4 x 48 (SC19207) is an OC-192 POS/ATM mapper that supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet LAN and wide area network (WAN) modes. It also supports SONET/SDH channelization, simplifying connectivity to add/drop multiplexers. The 192 (S19218) is intended for OC-192 SONET/SDH and 10 Gbe traffic. It also supports serializer/deserializer (Ser/Des) operations. The devices eliminate multiple discrete components and simplify the routing of high-speed signal on a board, which results in space, power and cost reductions. The chips are packaged in plastic BGAs (PBGAs). For more details and pricing, contact APPLIED MICRO CIRCUITS CORP INC., San Diego, CA. (858) 535-3436.
