Dubbed OneDRAM, the company's fusion memory chip reports significant increases in data-processing speeds between processors in mobile applications. The OneDRAM device seeks deployment in handsets, game consoles and, in particular, applications that rely heavily on 3D graphics. Operating at 133 MHz with a 512-Mb density, the chip incorporates a dual-port configuration to aid data transfers between processors. Data managed by the processors is housed in a shared bank where the data-storage space is adjusted accordingly. This meets the JEDEC low-power double-data-rate (LPDDR) memory standard. Essentially, OneDRAM will channel data between processors through a single chip, eliminating the need for DRAM and SRAM for buffer memory. Other reported advantages include a 30% reduction in power consumption and a 50% decrease in board space. OneDRAM is expected to debut in handsets by the second half of 2007. SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO.
