An analog laser sensor family has been expanded to include high resolution, fast response, programmable devices designed for positioning applications that require continuous, precise distance measurements. To meet the demands of precise positioning applications, the new distance sensors offer resolutions to four microns and response times as fast as 900 µs, allowing the sensors to accurately track high speed applications. And the devices can sense distances of up to one meter. The new models are designed with teach-in programming using an on-board button or remote access. The teach-in feature is said to make programming and set-up easy; no external programming is needed. The sensors are suitable for surface profiling, thickness measurement, height detection, and roll diameter detection. The compact, 50 x 65 x 20-mm sensors measure distance to a target based on the triangulation principle and output the measurement either through an analog or digital interface.
