Front-End Modules Provide Transient Protection And EMI Filtering

June 1, 2000

Designers using the firm's 2nd Generation, 48Vin dc-to-dc converters can meet the transient immunity and EMI requirements of Bellcore, FCC, ETSI and European norms with the Filter/Input Attenuator Module (FIAM) Series. The FIAMs are modular, DC input front-ends that provide transient protection, inrush current limiting, and EMI filtering in a single, mini-sized package.
For example, the units can protect system hardware from the potentially damaging effects of inrush current encountered during card insertion. They accept an input voltage of 36 to 76 vdc, are available in either 10A or 20A versions, and include remote on/off and reverse polarity protection. The devices are housed in an industry standard half-brick module measuring 2.28" by 2.2" by 0.5". Depending on the model, they can be mounted on-board or in-board for height critical applications. Single-unit pricing is $49 for the 10A version.
