An expanded line of Mini Crown Edge connectors are low profile, high-current types for pluggable voltage-regulator modules (VRMs) used in 1U and 2U server applications. The VRM 10.2 configuration offers 12 individual power contacts and 18 signal contacts in a form factor less than 4" long. Another configuration has 18 power contacts plus 20 signal contacts capable of 225A input and return. Individual power contacts are rated at 25A at a 30°C temperature rise in still air. A short path length reduces loop inductance levels, meeting the high slew-rate requirements of recent VRM-to-CPU power delivery architectures. Termination-to-the-board options include surface mount (SMT), two lengths of through-hole PC tails, and compliant press-fit pins. The SMT version comes with a board hold-down feature that facilitates the soldering process. The VRM 10.2 type starts at under $2.00 in high volume quantities.
