Designed for high-performance RFID read/write applications, the new MCRF450/7C chip-on-board module melds together a MCRF450 13.56-MHz RFID read/write tagging IC plus two 68-pF, high-Q resonant capacitors to tap the chipÕs anti-collision capabilities. The MCRF450Õs passive RFID tag engine is said to offer advanced anti-collision circuitry for reading multiple tags in the same reader field and an unique ÒcloakingÓ feature that minimizes the de-tuning effect of adjacent tags. Also available is 1 Kb of user memory that can be read, written, updated in real-time, or write-protected in 32-bit blocks. The modules are programmed at the factory with a unique, permanent 32-bit tag ID prior to assembly. In addition, the tiny (8 mm x 5 mm x 0.4 mm), two-contact package enables OEMs to complete tag designs quickly using a single coil antenna. Typical applications for the module include: writing to and reading of selective warehouse items and medical patient ID and prescription information; personnel access control; and animal tagging for historical databases. Offered on a 35-mm tape-on-reel, the COB leads can be soldered or welded, with the package being thin enough for use in ISO card and smart label assemblies.
