Specially designed for voltage regulation for loads up to 1A, the LM2621 step-up (boost) dc-to-dc switching regulator is suited to applications in cellular phones, pagers, handheld information appliances, PDAs, and laptop and portable computers. The 8-pin MSOP requires only half the board space of similar regulators in standard SO packaging. The device's constant duty cycle, gated oscillator topology is said to result in high efficiency over a wide load range. It combines a switching controller, N-channel power MOSFET, built-in peak switch current limiting, thermal limiting and a voltage reference on one chip. Input voltages can vary from 1.2V to 14V, while outputs are adjustable from 1.24V to 14V. The device will start from inputs as low as 1.1V and continue to operate down to 0.65V.
