With dimensions of just 6.8 mm x 2.8 mm x 2.2 mm high, the CHX1200 is claimed as the smallest infrared data communications transceiver on the market. Aimed at mobile computing and communications products, the device enables infrared data connections with minimal board space and minimal effect on battery life. It operates from a 2.7V to 3.6V supply voltage and draws only 95 µA at 3.3V. The chip transfers data at 115.2 kbps at distances up to 20 cm to other similar mobile appliances. The device integrates an IRED emitter, a PIN photodiode detector, a digital AC-coupled LED driver, and a fully differential receiver/decoder. A single capacitor is the only additional component required for a complete solution. Typical applications include miniaturized mobile phones, pagers, and PDAs. Pricing starts at $1.75 each/100,000. Samples and production quantities are available.
