Designed as a rack-mount/benchtop chassis for PXI-bus systems requiring a large number of instruments in a single chassis, this low-profile 4U chassis supports up to 18 PXI boards. The board's capacity is coupled with a 600W universal input supply with power factor correction, reportedly providing 33% more power than any other PXI package. To support this amount of power, the S32 for PXI comes with three 130 cfm, high-pressure fans and automatic temperature speed control for quiet operation. The 18-slot PXI backplane and dual bridges support the latest PXI standard and triggering scheme. Application areas targeted by the chassis include test, telecomm, industrial automation, medical instrumentation and military systems. The PXI's cross-compatibility with CompactPCI allows easy integration of other non-instrumentation boards as well. Single unit pricing starts at $3,875 for the complete system, which includes the chassis, backplane, bridging, power, cooling and monitoring.
