Very Fast Streaming Recorder Handles High Data Volume

With 12 300-Gbyte Fibre Channel hard drives, the SDRxR streaming Data recorder from Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing permits four hours of recording time for each of two 245-Mbyte/s channels.

The SDRxR is a high-performance Serial FPDP (Front Panel Data Port)-based streaming data recorder for recording and playback in sensor-to-processor applications. The turn-key system, from Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing's Dayton Group, delivers multi-channel recording of high-volume, continuous data streams at up to 245 Mbytes/s per channel. The system consists of a 3U rack-mounted chassis containing the controller, the interface boards, and the hard disk drives for two channels. Each unit comes standard with 12 300-Gbyte Fibre Channel hard drives for a total capacity of 3.6 Tbytes of disk storage, or up to fours hours of recording time per 245-Mbyte/s channel. Storage capacity is scalable to virtually any size required, and controller units can be interconnected to create a single multi-channel system.

The SDRxR uses a unique method of striping multi-channel, high-volume data across multiple Fibre Channel disks to enable uninterrupted recording. The unit bypasses the host processor's file system to provide total control over data storage. Because file system attributes are not embedded with the streaming data, users can access the data at Fibre Channel rates from heterogeneous PCs. Archived data can also be retrieved via the SDRxR's Gigabit Ethernet port at rates up to 1.25 Gbits/s. For embedded systems, the recorder includes an API that runs on Windows XP/2000 and Linux. A Command Line Interface (CLI) is also standard. The CLI can be used from a "terminal" application to directly control record and playback functions. CLI commands may also be embedded in a user script file using PERL, TCL, or other scripting languages.
