The Quixote DSP card combines Texas Instruments' 600-MHz TMS320C6416 and a Xilinx 6 million-gate Virtex-II FPGA. Quixote provides higher bandwidth for CompactPCI-based software-defined radios, wireless Internet protocol development and hardware testing, and ultra-fast data acquisition. The card will find a home in vector signal generation, signal identification, radar, and electronic warfare applications. Its analog front end (AFE) features 105-MHz, 14-bit I/Q input and output channels tightly coupled to the FPGA for narrow and wideband receivers. Quixote comes ready to use with digital up/down conversion channels configurable as narrow or wideband receivers. It also may be programmed for ultra-high-speed hardware-assisted processing. Quixote's architecture offers several advantages over competing designs as well, such as an FPGA processing core with high-speed private memory, a 1-Gbyte/s burst length from the FPGA to the DSP, and high-speed connectivity to a system using a 64-bit PCI or ChannelLink interface. Private zero bus turnaround (ZBT) synchronous burst static random access memory (SBSRAM) for the FPGA enables complex processing of large blocks of data. The Quixote Development Package includes the Quixote card, Code Composer Studio DSP development and debugging tools, and a JTAG debugger. Pricing for the Quixote board ranges from $9900 to $16,500 each, depending on configuration.
