IR's new power-management chip set, which helps simplify the design of low-voltage, high-current multiphase synchronous dc-dc converters, complies with Intel VRM 9.0 design guidelines. This solution also helps cut logistics costs in manufacturing. The IRUK-3055CQ01 chip set consists of one IRU-3055CQ three-phase pulse-width modulation controller IC with onboard drivers, three IRF3704S control HEXFET power MOSFETs, and three IRF3711S synchronous HEXFET MOSFETs. The devices are individually optimized to work together to maximize system-level efficiency in a complete three-phase dc-dc synchronous buck converter solution. Together, they can deliver up to 60 A to power advanced microprocessors, such as the Intel Pentium 4 and the AMD K7. The IRDC3055 reference design kit, which uses the chip set, can deliver up to 60 A and 1.5-V output voltage from a 12-V input bus. The IRUK3055CQ01 chip set costs $4.20 each in 10,000-unit quantities. The design kit costs $250 each.
