It combines digital logic analyzer, digital pattern generator, EPROM emulator, and PCI bus monitor functions. Also, it has 128 channels and a 32-Mbyte effective memory depth (in differential mode) with 100- (64 channels) and 50-MHz (128 channels) capture speeds.
As a pattern generator, it can store a pattern that's 128k by 128 bits wide and play it out at 50 MHz. EPROM emulation for 8- or 16-bit EPROMs is provided as well. The PCI bus monitor includes a PCI bus extender/monitor card, and it can handle either 25- or 33-MHz PCI busses. Four pods of 32 channels each are included. Each independent pod can be configured individually. As a result, some pods can act as analyzers while others simultaneously perform pattern generation.

Designers can use it to evaluate the transmission performance of cable modems, cable modem termination systems (CMTSs), set-top boxes, HDTV equipment, and IP telephony products. It emulates both upstream (5 to 42 MHz) and downstream (50 to 860 MHz) HFC channel characteristics in a single, integrated instrument.
Also, it can emulate amplitude tilt, intermodulation distortion, group delay distortion, noise, and interference. These impairments can be emulated independently to isolate the effect of a particular impairment on a product's performance or simultaneously to evaluate product performance in a real-world environment. A built-in diplex filter combines the upstream and downstream channels from the CMTS (or headend) into a single interface, permitting the testing of multiple subscriber devices, i.e., cable modems. It now reaches 102,400 samples/s on each channel, which is an ideal rate for 1024-point FFTs binning at 100 Hz. It applies eight on-board first-stage analog filters to its eight simultaneous inputs, followed by digital filtering on two DSP chips. This provides 96-dB (sixteenth bit) stopband rejection within one quarter octave. Each channel can sample at up to 153.6 ksamples/s—the rate for 1024-point FFTs binning at 150 Hz—for a total 1.22-Msample/s throughput.
This upgrade was designed for sonar and other spectral analysis applications. Users control the board, either locally or across a network, through a graphical interface. Also, it features data acquisition with 16-bit resolution, optical isolation, and anti-aliasing.
