Ruggedized DAQ Module Features Four Form C And Two Serial Outputs

The latest addition to ACCES I/O's line of USB embedded data-acquisition modules, the Model USB-IIRO4-2SM, offers four optically isolated digital inputs, four Form C (SPDT) electromechanical relay outputs, and two RS-232/422/485 serial communication ports. The multifunction device comes in two versions: packaged in a 4- by 4- by 1.8-in. rugged industrial enclosure, or as a board without the enclosure. The module is well-suited for applications that require on-board relays and isolated inputs, such as test equipment, instrumentation, industrial monitoring, process control, and communications. The unpackaged OEM version is intended for a variety of embedded applications.

The unit (see the Figure) features a high-speed custom function driver optimized for a maximum data throughput that is 50 to 100 times faster than the USB human interface device (HID) driver used in many other products. To simplify wiring connections, the isolated inputs and relay outputs are available via a mounted DB25 connector or, in the OEM version, a 26-pin IDC vertical shrouded header. An additional USB input header is provided for embedded applications, along with a downstream USB port for connecting additional USB devices. Serial communications are provided through two DB9 connectors with adjacent LEDs indicating serial port activity. All required power is drawn through the USB port.
