The Model 4149 ruggedized fiber-to-RS485/422/232 converter from Electro Standards Laboratories operates at 1.5 Mbits/s for RS232 to fiber conversion and 20 Mbits for RS485/422 to copper conversion. It also operates from –40°C to 85°C with protection circuitry on all receivers and transmitters for both RS232 and RS485/422 interfaces. Protected from transients, its power input features 3-kV dc isolation to prevent system ground loops. And, the Model 4149 can be powered from 9 to 36 V dc. Additional models are available for other ranges, such as 4.5 to 9 V dc and 18 to 72 V dc.

The converter also features user-selectable fiber polarity, dual DB9 power connectors (board only), and TX, RX, and power indicator LEDs. The board-only Model 4159 offers front-mounting threaded brackets for rack mounting in embedded applications. It’s also available in a desktop package with DIN rail-mounting hardware for applications that require an enclosure.
