The 34-MHz H8S/2472F from Renesas Technology America is optimized for use in low-end servers, communications equipment, and building automation systems.

As Renesas Technology America's first 16-bit microcontroller with an Ethernet controller, the 34-MHz H8S/2472F is optimized for use in low-end servers, communications equipment, and building automation systems. The device includes 512 kbytes of flash memory and 40 kbytes of RAM. It also integrates a comprehensive set of peripheral functions, including Full-Speed USB support, I2C bus, LPC (low-pin count) bus, and synchronous serial communication (SSU). The MCU comes in a compact (13- by 13-mm) 176-pin ball-grid array package. The IEEE 802.3-compliant media access controller allows connection to a 10/100-Mbit/s Ethernet local-area network.

Other on-chip functions include an eight-channel, 10-bit analog-to-digital converter, 16-channel event counter, data transfer controller, bus-state controller, 8-bit and 16-bit timers, watchdog timer, and others. The 3.3-V device has an H8S/2600 CPU core with a built-in multiply-accumulate function. Support tools are available to facilitate the system design process. Renesas offers an integrated development environment with software tools, evaluation boards, and the low-cost Renesas E10A on-chip debug emulator.
