24-Bit, 96-kHz Stereo ADC Supports Latest Audio Standards

April 1, 1999

With a dynamic range of 117 dB, the AK5393 a/d converter is suited for the most demanding professional audio applications requiring wide dynamic range, negligible distortion and low noise. The 24-bit, 96-kHz device provides a signal-to-noise (plus distortion) ratio of 105 dB while dissipating just 480 mW, even at the full 96-kHz sampling rate. The chip, which is based on the company's dual-bit delta-sigma technology, is said to make professional digital audio recording at the new 96-kHz sampling standard a reality, even in cost-sensitive applications. It should find its way into equipment such as studio digital audio mixers and digital video tape recorders. The converter offers sampling rates of up to 108 kHz, 128X oversampling, full differential inputs and a digital highpass filter and offset calibration for ease of system design. It comes in a 28-lead SOP package. An evaluation board is available.
